Beza Shewangizaw | Principal Attorney


Beza is a founder and principal attorney of of ET-Afrolawyers . Beza graduated from Adama Science and Technology University in July 2012 with a bachelor's degree of law (LL.B.) and LL.M. in International law from Addis Ababa University. She has over 8 years of legal experience in the private and public sectors of Ethiopia. Beza served as A/ Judge on commercial bench, civil and family benches in the Federal First Instance Court (FFIC) of Ethiopia.

She has also served as a Mediator in court-annexed mediation and served as a legal research expert in the Legal research department of the Federal first instance court. In her capacity as a legal researcher, she has conducted different legal research in various legal concerns. 

Beza is currently practicing as a private lawyer representing individual and corporate clients. Moreover, she obtained a certificate of completion of the training provided by the European Union, on “ leadership and conflict management skills during the election.” She consulted the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia on the investigation of complaints on the 6th national election of the country. Additionally she took part in the investigation of pre-election complaints on the 6th national election of Ethiopia in Somali regional state.

Beza is a Co-founder of Timran civic association which works on the promotion of women's political participation. She has extensive legal expertise in representing companies, drafting, researches and handling civil family and succession cases. She also provides volunteer services in the legal representation of women’s rights.

Beza has served as the President of Female Students’ Association. She was also an active member of the student union and Head of the student academic committee of the university. She was awarded a certificate of appreciation from Ethiopian Human Rights Commission for her contribution in voluntary activity and the establishment of the human rights club in the university.

Civic and community involvement

  • Volunteer in Pro bono service. She represents women (who are in need of justice and with financial constraints) in court on behalf of EWLA.
  • Co -Founder and member of Timran Civic Association
  • Volunteer in Federal Supreme Court Children’s Legal Protection Center. She represents and gives legal advices who are in need of justice and with financial constraints in court on behalf of the project.

  • Beza is licensed to practice at all federal courts of Ethiopia.
